Hosting a Portland Picnic

By February 23, 2012 No Comments

Planning to have a picnic in Portland? Perhaps the most important part of any picnic is the food. Hamburgers and hot dogs are favorite picnic foods and are easily prepared on the grill at the park. You can also rent a large gas grill for your picnic. If you don’t want to cook any food at the park, pizza or sub sandwiches are an easy solution or go pot luck and let everyone share the work.

Portland has many gorgeous settings for picnics, but there is one potential problem with having any outdoor events in Portland- the weather. Portland is one of the rainiest cities in the United states with an average of 222 cloudy days per year. When planning for an outdoor event in Portland therefore, plan for the rain. Pick a park with a picnic shelter or use a tent. On the off chance a picnic takes place on a warm, sunny day, guests will be glad to have the shelter for shade. Even Portland gets hot sometimes.

If you are having a large party of using any special equipment for your picnic, be sure to reserve your picnic site ahead of time to make sure that the space is available when you have your event. Smaller picnics do not necessarily need to reserve a space, but keep in mind without reservations another party might take the space you want if there is a specific site you have in mind.

If you are having a party with lots of kids, consider renting inflatable bounce houses or other games and entertainment. A covered bounce house provides a space for the kids to play out of the rain.

Hope your picnic day is sunny and bright, but with a little preparation, your picnic can be a success no matter what the weather.
